Today there was a huge town all meeting with 20 well known pro and anti slavery advocates. Everyone in our class was able to represent one of the advocates for this meeting and was able to share the advocates' views and what they believe in.
In the Town hall meeting I was representing Angelina Grimke. Angelina grew up in North Carolina in a wealthy family who owned slaves. However, she fled to a quaker community in Philladalphia when she was older because she had different views about slavery. In philly she became one of the first women antislavery agents. She spoke to many and even though most people did not accept her because they did not see a women being fit to speak out she had a major impact on history. She saw that the southern slaves were not legal according to many different religions.
People who were against slavery mostly just argued the economic side of having slavery. Most people who were for slavery were rich and said that without slavery their fortune would not be a thing. There are many different views on slavery but this is what the majority of the pro slavery advocates said.
For these pro slavery arguments the slaves at least get paid or released after the 6 years like the bible and the jewish religion states
For the class meeting we decided that the arguments against slavery won overall and had more angles of the argument.
